Ramkabir Bhajans (રામકબીર ભજન RAMKABIR BHAJAN) is a website for traditional bhajans of Shree Ramkabir Bhakta Samaj.
Shree Ramkabir Bhakta Samaj has a long tradition of singing bhajan-kirtan (devotional songs) with an emphasis on congregational singing or group singing. This four century-long rich cultural heritage of Ramkabir sect (રામકબીર સંપ્રદાય) has been passed on from generation to generation keeping communities cohesive and in harmony. Residing in proximity to each other in the old days in India, the people in the community gathered frequently to sing bhajan-kirtan. All occasions were celebrated with the singing of bhajan-kirtan. In the past 50 years, more than 80% of Bhakta families have migrated abroad and are now sparsely populated. With a completely different environment and the dynamics of challenges, the bhajan-kirtan tradition has largely faded.
In the early 1980s, Shree Ramkabir Bhakta Samaj of USA published the second edition of Ramkabir Bhakta Bhajan Sangrah (Nadbrahma) - a bhajan book consisting of over 900 bhajans. The Bhakta Samaj also published an album of audio cassettes of traditional bhajans ("શ્રી રામકબીર ભક્ત ભજન સંસ્કૃતિનો અમર વારસો") by Syadla Bhajan Mandal and Tarsadi Bhajan Mandal with the primary aim of preserving this great bhajan tradition of ours. A number of youngsters at the time, including yours truly, were inspired to learn to sing traditional bhajans from this audio cassette album.
Keeping in mind the new generation, we have created this comprehensive website with the aim of preserving the bhajan tradition of Shree Ramkabir Bhakta Samaj and reaching the young bhajan enthusiasts across the globe. Much of the digital collection of books, audios and videos is downloadable on any device. For the most commonly sung bhajans, there are bhajan pages which include bhajan lyrics, English transliteration, English translation, audios and also videos of the bhajan. We are continually working to build this site and need your valuable input. Please let us know your views on any aspect of this website. Our contact email address is ramkabirbhajans [at] gmail.com.
