Neelamben Yagnik

    વંદના
    જેને દિવ્ય સ્તવો વડે સ્તવી રહ્યાં, સૂર્યાગ્નિ વા વાદળાં,
    જેના મંત્ર, પુરાણ, શાસ્ત્ર, ભજનો, ગાયે ઋષિ વ્યાકુળા;
    યોગી ધ્યાન ધરી જ, સંયમ કરી, જેની કરે ઝંખના,
    જેનો પાર ન કોઈએ લઇ શક્યા, તે દેવને વંદના.
    vandanā

Whom the Sun, Fire, Wind, and Clouds worship with divine hymns and praises,
Whom the restless, yearning sages sing of through Vedic mantras, Puranas, scriptures, and devotional songs;
Whom the yogis yearn for, holding steadfast contemplation and practicing self-restraint,
Whose absolute limits no one has ever been able to find—salutations to that Supreme Divine Being.

shri arjun bolyā:
    samādhi-māň sthita-pragna, jānavo kem keshava ?
bole, rahe, fare kema, muni je sthira bud-dhino ?   54

Arjuna said:
What are the signs of a person of steady wisdom, who is absorbed in divine consciousness, O Keshav (Krishna)?
How does a sage of stable mind speak, how does he sit, and how does he walk?

shri bhagvān bolyā:
    mana-ni kāmanā sarve, chhodi-ne ātmā-māň ja je
    rahe saňtushta ātmā-thi, te sthita-pragna jānavo   55

The Blessed Lord said:
When a person entirely abandons all selfish desires of the mind, O Arjuna, and remains completely satisfied within the self by the self alone, then he is known as a person of steady wisdom.

    dukhe udhvega nā chit-te sukho-ni jhaňkhanā ga-ii
gayā rāga, bhaya, krodha, muni te sthira-bud-dhino   56

Whose mind remains unperturbed in times of sorrow, who no longer longs for pleasures, and who is completely free from attachment, fear, and anger—such a sage is called a person of steady wisdom.

    ā-sakta nahi je kyāňya, malye kāň-ii shubhā-shubha
na kare harsha ke dvesha, teni pragnā tha-ii sthira   57

He who is entirely unattached to anything anywhere, and who neither rejoices in receiving good fortune nor feels resentment upon encountering misfortune—his wisdom is firmly established.

kāchabo jema aňgo-ne, tema je vishayo thaki
saňkele indriyo purna, teni pragnā tha-ii sthira   58

When a person is able to completely withdraw their senses from the objects of the senses, just as a tortoise draws its limbs inside its shell, their wisdom is firmly established.

nirā-hāri shariri-nā, tale chhe vishayo chhatā
rasa rahi jato temāň, te tale pekhatā param   59

Though an embodied soul may physically abstain from sensory pleasures, the taste and longing for them still remain within the mind. However, even this subtle inner craving completely vanishes when one experiences the Supreme Divine reality.

    praytna-māň rahe toye, shānā e nara-nā hare
    mana-ne indriyo masta, vega-thi vishayo bhani   60

The turbulent senses are so incredibly powerful, O Arjuna, that they forcefully carry away the mind of even a wise and discriminating person who is actively striving to control them.

yogathi te vashe rākhi, rahevu mat-parāyana
indriyo saňyame jeni, teni pragnā tha-ii sthira   61

Restraining all the senses through yoga, one should sit focused on Me as the Supreme Goal. For whoever has their senses under complete control, their wisdom is firmly established.

vishayo-nu rahe dhyāna, temāň ā-sakti upaje
    janme ā-sakti-thi kāma, kāma-thi krodha nipaje   62

By constantly dwelling on the objects of the senses, a person develops an attachment to them. From attachment, desire (craving) is born, and from unfulfilled desire, anger arises.

krodha-thi mudhatā āve, mudhatā smruti-ne hare
    smruti-lope bud-dhi-nāsha, bud-dhi-nāshe vināsha chhe   63

From anger arises delusion, and from delusion comes the loss of memory. With the loss of memory, the intellect is destroyed, and with the destruction of intellect, a person is completely ruined.

rāga ne dvesha chhuteli, indriye vishayo grahe
vashendriya sthirātmā je, te pāme chhe prashan-natā   64

But a person who is free from attachment and aversion, interacting with material objects through senses that are completely under control and obedient to the self, attains ultimate inner purity and peace.

pāmye prashan-natā tenā, dukho sa-u nāsha pāmatā
pāmyo prashan-natā teni, bud-dhi shighra bane sthira   65

Upon attaining that inner peace and serenity, all of one's sorrows and miseries are completely destroyed. The intellect of such a serene and cheerful person very quickly becomes firmly established in divine consciousness.

    ayogi-ne nathi bud-dhi, ayogi-ne na bhāvanā
    na bhāvahina-ne shānti, sukha kyāň-thi ashānta-ne ?   66

One who is undisciplined and unconnected to the Divine has no true intellect, nor do they possess spiritual feelings or focus. For one without focus, there is no peace, and for the unpeaceful, how can there be any true happiness?

Just as a powerful wind sweeps away a boat on the water, even a single sensory object that the mind tracks and chases after can completely carry away a person's wisdom and intellect.

tethi jene badhi rite, raksheli vishayo thaki
indriyo nigrahe rākhi, teni pragnā tha-ii sthira   68

Therefore, O mighty-armed Arjuna, one whose senses are completely restrained and guarded from their material objects in every way—their wisdom is firmly established.

nishā je sarva bhuto-ni, temāň jāgrata saňyami
jemāň jāge badhā bhuto, te gnāni muni-ni nishā   69

What is night for all living beings is the time of awakening for the self-controlled sage. And that which is the time of awakening for all beings is seen as night by the wise seer.

          sadā bharātā achala-pratishtha,
          samudra-māň nira badhā praveshe
          jemā praveshe sahu kāma tema,
te shānti pāme nahi kāma-kāmi   70

Just as the ocean remains undisturbed and completely stable despite being constantly filled by rivers rushing into it from all sides, a person into whom all worldly desires enter without causing any mental ripple achieves true peace—not the one who chases after those desires.

chhodi-ne kāmanā sarve, fare je nara nih-spruha
ahamtā mamatā muki, te pāme shānti bhārata   71

That person who abandons all material desires and moves through the world entirely free from cravings, ownership, and ego, attains ultimate and lasting peace, O Arjuna.

ā chhe brahma-dashā ene, pāmye nā moha-māň pade
    anta-kāleya te rākhi, brahma-nirvāna melave   72

This is the ultimate divine state, O Arjuna. Having attained this, a person is never deluded again. If one is established in this consciousness even at the final hour of death, they achieve absolute liberation from the cycle of birth and death, merging into the Divine.
